Salary Gross annual salary from € 58,000 and commensurate with experience
ECCO is seeking an Industry and Trade Lead with 5-7 years of professional experience and robust knowledge of key industrial systems and processes relevant to decarbonisation and related policies, including international trade.
– Lead and manage ECCO's industry and trade work area and its team members.
– Contribute to the development of the area's strategy, in relation to the analysis and policy impact objectives to be pursued and taking into account the contributions of the team members.
– Actively contribute to building and substantiating techno-economic research and analysis on the decarbonisation of the main industrial sectors (including steel, chemicals and cement), with the ability to capture the interrelationships with the energy, transport and civil sectors.
– Understand and translate the qualitative and quantitative implications of industrial transition in its different dimensions – social, economic, technological, geo-economic and geo-political – and in connection with ECCO's other areas of work.
– Understand and translate industrial policies and related stakeholder engagement with respect to national (such as the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan, PNRR and the Budget Law), European (such as the Net Zero Industry Act, the reform of the Stability Pact and the CSDD), Mediterranean and African (such as the Mattei Plan), international trade and multilateral (G7, G20, COP) processes.
– Represent ECCO externally and contribute to the organisation of meetings to involve Italian and European institutions and key stakeholders, in particular the main grassroots industrial associations in Italy and Brussels, assisting the team in building a network of relations functional to the objectives.
– Liaise with companies, industrial associations, trade unions, social and public actors in institutions and politics to identify critical issues and build consensus for the transition.
– Liaise with national and international experts from universities, think tanks and civil society dealing with the same issues.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
– Knowledge of technological options, relevant sources, macro-processes of transformation of the main industrial sectors for decarbonisation in line with 1.5° climate scenarios.
– Excellent understanding of transition scenarios for industry and energy, evolution trends and key technological, market and geopolitical drivers.
– Knowledge of the principles and dynamics of international trade agreements, with particular reference to national and European agreements in relation to the rest of the world.
– Knowledge of G7, G20 frameworks and related initiatives to promote decarbonisation of industry, promote demand for 'green' products and safeguard competitiveness, such as CBAM and IRA and their implications.
– Proven experience and expertise in research and management of quantitative research.
– Proven experience and expertise in knowledge and understanding of the implications of national and EU-level industrial policies.
– Ability to provide quantitative support to the definition of change processes and the assessment of impacts related to the decarbonisation of industrial systems and their supply and value chains.
– Ability to understand the emission profiles of the main sectors of the economy and national, European and international policies and instruments for decarbonisation.
APPLICANT PROFILE AND EXPERIENCE
– University degree in a relevant discipline with the possibility of assessing different professional profiles against proven experience. Higher education is an advantage in selection.
– Professional experience of 5-7 years in applied research and/or policy in the industrial and/or transport and/or energy sectors in Italy and abroad.
– Knowledge of the main emission scenarios of the industrial sectors, of the main scenarios and technical institutions elaborating them, and of the national, European and international institutions acting on climate change and the main instruments for action.
– Ability to translate research into reports for policy makers and other stakeholders.
– Ability to link the quantitative and analytical dimensions of climate policy-making.
– Excellent knowledge of Excel. Additional knowledge of database management or scenario modelling is an advantage.
– Advanced proficiency in Italian. The working language at ECCO is Italian.
– Proficiency in English (C1/C2). Proficiency in other languages would be a plus.
– Personal motivation, intellectual curiosity, positivity and flexibility to achieve results and enthusiasm for the urgency of accelerating climate action.
