About the PositionWorldFish is seeking a dynamic research analyst to provide technical support to the foresight modelling team. Quantitative foresight modelling and supply-demand analysis are crucial for understanding inter-linked challenges and interactions of fish production, consumption and trade to provide recommendations for fisheries and aquaculture development planning and policy making. This research area is supported by the One CGIAR initiative and other bilateral projects.
The successful candidate will work with project leaders and researchers in the team to conduct data collection and analysis for fish foresight modelling and scenario analysis to inform public and private sector in aquaculture and fisheries policies and investments planning, and to develop and apply novel/internet-based tools, methods, and models for assessment.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupport semi-independently and independently the foresight modelling team in econometric analysis and modelingBe responsible for collecting, validating, and analyzing data with high accuracyConduct literature review and document literature for modeling and analysis purposesCoordinate with team members, collaborators and partners in both science and project management aspectsConduct primary data collection using online data collection tools (ODK) for statistical researchPlan and conduct stakeholder consultation workshops, capacity building training courses, and other activities related to research, development and technology transfer (both science and management aspects)Assist in drafting presentations for workshops, conferences, and meetingsCollect and analyze data and contribute to writing reports and drafting papers for scientific publicationRequirementsBachelor's or Master's Degree in an appropriate field of social science (economics, agricultural economics, environmental economics, agriculture/fisheries and aquaculture, statistics), or any related fieldIntermediate knowledge in using either STATA, GAMS, R, Matlab, Python, database software, and Microsoft Office applicationsExcellent data mining, quantitative analysis, and econometric skillsDemonstrated ability to perform in-depth quantitative and statistical analysis and good data reporting skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracyKnowledge of mobile data collection tools using Open Data Kit (ODK), KOBO toolbox, or other data collection platformsKnowledge of data visualization using GIS software, e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.Experienced in conducting literature reviews of academic publications, research reports, etc.Support report and manuscript writing for quality output deliveryExcellent written and verbal English communication skillsAble to multitask, work within deadlines and with minimum supervision.Strong organizational skills, hardworking with a good work ethic.Excellent interpersonal skills and to work in a team-oriented multi-cultural environment.This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position and WorldFish offers a competitive remuneration package including comprehensive benefits (but not limited to) insurance coverage for staff and eligible dependents, employer provident fund contribution, paid leave, and others. The duration of the contract will initially be for a one-year period with possibility for extension, depending on funding and performance.
Location:The post holder will be based in Penang, Malaysia. This position will involve international travel.
