Beacon Technologies is seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA), who is responsible for building, management, design, and resiliency of all of our client's databases. The DBA will work with Business Unit software development teams and IT Operations in partnership to create a highly available database environment to support our production and customer requirements. The DBA will be responsible for maintaining the integrity and performance of the company databases and guarantee the data is stored securely and efficiently.
Responsibilities:
Daily support and maintenance of Microsoft SQL databases including reviewing and implementing production changes, indexing, database and transactional backups.Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.Guide development and report writing teams on query writing for best performance.Provide technical leadership, architecture, and design of database environments, tables, schemas, and availability groups with a deep knowledge of database design and theory.Troubleshoot and resolve production issues that impact card production and customers without excess.Participate in the development and maintenance of strategic, architectural and tactical plans for the database and data warehouse environments.Maintain, improve, and build SQL availability groups including multi-master replication.Grow an understanding of business needs and bring ideas and solutions on improving DBA processes with better business alignment.Keeping all MS SQL instances up to date through regular patching and upgrades.Constant performance tuning of SQL server with a deep understanding of how databases perform at an OS and hardware level.Experience using monitoring tools such as Spotlight and using them to improve SQL performance and identify problems.Assist in decision-making around SQL licensing and balancing performance and cost.Create automation for repetitive DBA tasks.Ethically handling private data and financial data.Day in the Life of a DBA:
General DB environment health checks (to include but are not limited to …)Check that all databases are backed up.Check if there are any SQL Agent Jobs failing.Check monitoring software for any issues, research and resolve them.Validate disk space is not low.Validate that no databases are offline or corrupt.Perform any database maintenance needed.Review for incoming and existing tickets and respond to them.Work directly with requestor and/or supporting IT team, as appropriate.Collaborate with IT Ops & Enterprise Applications team members, as appropriate.Deliver assigned project work, participate in discussions, proactively communicate progress and escalate risks.Work directly with project managers and project leads outside of DBA team, as appropriate.Collaborate with IT Ops & Enterprise Applications team members, as appropriate.Ancillary Responsibilities:
Traveling to other locations as needed.Working night and weekends as needed for patching and project needs.Willingness to expand database knowledge to other platforms like MySQL and other technologies as the business evolves.Participate in an on-call rotation for 24/7 monitoring of SQL.Qualifications:
Effective written and verbal communication skills.Comfortable communicating with IT operations engineers and developers.Advanced SQL writing skills.Advanced Microsoft SQL Server understanding including: SSRS, SSIS, SSAS.Experience implementing and working with SQL Availability Groups and Replication.Experience with Windows and Linux server environments.Experience with cloud services, specifically AWS and Azure.Willing to work off-hours as needed to support upgrades, testing, and production scheduling limitations.The DBA is expected to work effectively without constant direct supervision. This role has the ability to make decisions at a user support level and will consult with the Business Applications Manager and the DBA team for more impactful decisions.Requirements:
