Apply now and join us in shaping the future of space.   D-Orbit is hiring a systems engineer with robotics background to join our growing robotics engineering team. You will contribute to the design of D-Orbit next-gen spacecraft platforms to deliver in-orbit services on space assets. Particularly you will be the technical responsible for the development of robotics equipment, working with the rest of the team to define joint mechanisms, mechatronics, innovative control algorithms for serial link manipulators and the overall robotics architecture. Your ultimate objective as robotics systems engineer is to deliver the best solution in terms of technical performance and assurance, taking into account design-to-cost and -production needs.    You will be involved in mission and spacecraft design and development, following the full development cycle from preliminary conceptualization to manufacturing, assembly, integration and testing of the real spacecraft for the maiden flight mission. You will interface with the procurement team to scout new technologies and purchase equipment to build the spacecraft, and support prototyping/manufacturing technicians during the assembly and verification activities. After launch, you will provide technical support related to therobotics domain to the Spacecraft Controllers (SpaCon) during the on-orbit operations.    On top of the project responsibilities, you will contribute to the company know-how related to robotics, including thedefinition of engineering processes and identification of tools and GSE/equipment for the robotic lab. You will participate in discussions with representatives of other engineering domains to disseminate the robotics development within the company.    Overall, you will become one of the focal points concerning robotics competencies and developments and contribute to the development of the robotic solutions for the new era of space services.    Tasks and Responsibilities:   Be the technical responsible for robotics systems and related subsystems;  Actively contribute and monitor the development of robotics architecture and design;  Robotics systems and subsystems budgeting and analyses, including mechanism kinematics and dynamic sizing, technological trade-off analyses, controllability analysis, etc.;  Coordinate the integration of robotic subsystems into overall systems architecture, particularly managing all interfaces, e.g. physical, software and functional / operational ones;  Contribute to the stakeholder/mission/project requirements capturing & management;  Contribute to the robotic systems verification and validation plan and requirements compliance;  Define the verification test procedures, and support test setup and execution;  Work within a multidisciplinary team of specialists on the spacecraft systems and s/s design, becoming the reference point for robotic ones;  Interface with and support AIV team and related activities;  Interface with prototyping / manufacturing to support assembly and verification (ground);  Interface with SpaCons to support on-orbit verification and validation during mission execution;    Professional Experience:    We are interested in speaking to people with a minimum of one year of work experience preferably in Space Systems Robotics, acceptable in other relevant engineering domains, e.g. industrial robots.    Job Requirements:    Experience in robotics systems design and development, with practical hands-on experience in robotic applications considered a plus.  Basic knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and systems-level knowledge of all spacecraft subsystems;  Knowledge of robotic busses architectures, e.g. Canopen and EtherCat;  Knowledge of data busses architectures, e.g. CAN, SPI and I2C;  Base knowledge of serial link manipulator technologies and control strategies. Advanced knowledge of joint torque-based control strategies is a plus;  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;  Proactive attitude and ability to work in a team;  Experience in the use of MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape and Python;  Experience in requirements management tools, e.g. DOORS or Jama;  Basic knowledge of software development and configuration management, e.g. GIT or Bitbucket;  Knowledge of Microsoft Excel;    Nice-to-have skills:   Working experience in space transportation and servicing applications;  Knowledge of Linux.  Basic knowledge of ROS;  Knowledge of Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence).  Knowledge of ECSS/NASA standards.    Education:   University degree preferably in the fields of Aerospace/Space Engineering or Robotics/Automation Engineering.    Language:   This role requires professional proficiency in English.    At D-Orbit, diversity and inclusivity are not just values, they are integral to our mission and the way we operate.
